Large Danish pine wall mirror 1970s

The large size and heavy wooden frame give this Danish wall mirror from the 1970s an almost architectural appearance. Four wide sections of solid pine form the rectangular frame, with the construction deliberately visible at the corners. Each corner features a square element of end-grain wood, where the different directions of the growth rings create a graphic pattern and add a special detail to the otherwise simple frame. The corner pieces protrude slightly beyond the frame, giving the mirror a sturdy, almost cubist shape. The warm colour of the pine and the visible knots soften the strict structure. This combination of pronounced construction and natural wood gives the mirror character without making the design feel heavy. With a height of 124 cm, it is large enough to stand out on its own on a wall. The mirror comes from Denmark and dates from the 1970s. The design closely resembles mirrors by Aksel Kjersgaard for Odder, including an almost identical marked example. Since this mirror itself is not marked, the attribution is cautiously kept to Aksel Kjersgaard. The mirror is in neat vintage condition and has been carefully cleaned. There are some signs of use in the wood appropriate to its age. The back of the mirror is fitted with a hanging system, ready for a new place on the wall.
