Louis-Philippe cylinder desk in mahogany 1850-1870

Internal structure made of softwood and hardwood. Retractable worktop covered with original thick wool cloth. Brass hardware. * Finish: Hand-applied traditional shellac polish, glossy finish. Height at the worktop: 77 cm|Height at the upper worktop: 127.5 cm. * Configuration: Furniture designed in two independent parts (upper body and lower chest) for ease of transport. Supplied with its 5 fitted brass keys. Description and condition. Mid-19th century decorative cylinder desk of German manufacture. The upper part is topped with a significant openwork pediment hand-carved with shell motifs. The movable cylinder conceals an interior theatre composed of niches and small storage drawers above the large sliding worktop. The lower section offers a large belt drawer and two full doors opening onto a large storage space. The item has undergone a complete restoration in cabinetmaking and a traditional repolishing with shellac. The structure is perfectly sound, rigid, and stable. The cylinder mechanism and sliding worktop operate smoothly. The original locks have been serviced and are functional. Not used after restoration, ready for immediate installation.
