cylinder desk in carved walnut – Louis XV period – 18th century Very beautiful and important cylinder desk in walnut from the Louis XV period, 18th century, featuring a dynamic architecture and rich sculpted decoration characteristic of the rococo style. The lower part rests on four curved legs and has two side compartments opening with moulded and sculpted doors. In the centre, a drawer surmounts the leg space. The desk section is closed by a significant curved cylinder, richly moulded. Its opening reveals a large workspace fitted with eight small drawers, arranged on either side. The upper part forms a bookcase with two side doors framing a central niche. The whole is crowned with a remarkable dynamic pediment, adorned with a significant sculpted shell, scrolls, and leafy motifs, in the pure Louis XV spirit. The various doors are decorated with shaped panels enhanced by delicate sculpted floral drops. Lock entries and fittings in brass. The interior compartments are lined with cream damask fabric. A piece of beautiful presence, with significant proportions, retaining a lovely old and warm patina. Period: Louis XV – 18th century Material: walnut Dimensions: H. 220 × W. 161 × D. 69 cm Condition: generally good condition, with wear, marks, and minor restorations consistent with its age. Note a later reinforcement of the back legs (invisible once the desk is in place).
