Louis XVI style buffet from the early 20th century. Four truncated pyramid legs support a curved front with a single door on olive hinges, and a rare purple breccia top. The piece is veneered in mahogany with marquetry inlays made from small opposing squares of blonde mahogany. The entire surface is enhanced with finely chiselled and gilded bronze. The legs feature small floral garlands, uprights with gilded bronze asparagus inserted into the flutes, cornices in the inlays, and leafy scrolls in the band beneath the top, also in gilded bronze. At the centre, a lion's head between two branches of oak and ivy holds a drapery in its mouth, from which hangs a myrtle branch that decorates the central medallion depicting a bacchanal with fauns.
