Beautiful plaque/bas-relief in plaster, titled "The Miner", signed by the famous Belgian artist, Constantin Meunier. It depicts the profile of a miner wearing a helmet, with a smoking factory chimney and a spoil tip in the background, symbolising industrial work in Belgium. This plaque was commissioned by the Brussels coal merchant Édouard Taymans as a promotional gift for his best clients. Circa 1900. Dimensions: Length: 22.5 cm. Height: 18 cm. "Constantin Meunier, born in Etterbeek (Belgium) on 12 April 1831 and died in Ixelles (Belgium) on 4 April 1905, was a Belgian realist painter and sculptor, renowned for his vision of the working world." The bas-relief is in very good condition (see photos). It will be delivered in appropriate packaging.
