Rare Louis XV mirror with mercury glass, gilded wood, 19th century.

Exceptional Louis XV style mirror (Rococo period), dating from the mid-19th century (circa 1850-1870). This model is distinguished by its richly moulded wooden and stucco frame, adorned with sumptuous rocaille decoration, asymmetrical scrolls, and floral motifs carved at the four corners. The great value of this piece lies in its original mercury glass. Untinted and a testament to a craftsmanship that has now disappeared, it offers that unique, deep, and silvery reflection so characteristic. The glass exhibits superb pitting (natural oxidation spots) sought after by antique enthusiasts and renowned decorators for its authenticity and poetic charm. The gilding presents a magnificent original patina with warm tones and slight surface wear that testify to its history. Provenance and historical interest: On the back, the original wooden backing retains an old handwritten label in German (Sütterlin script), mentioning its former owner ("Schwester Maria Bering" / Sister Maria Bering) and inventorying this mirror within a set of period furniture.
