Superb pair of bronze bookends with a gilt patina, reminiscent of Auguste Rodin's famous sculpture "The Thinker." Depicting a seated man in deep meditation/introspection, Rodin's chosen pose is not natural. His right elbow rests on his left thigh. This deliberate attitude is intended to represent not repose, but the tension of reflection. Vintage from the 1950s/1960s, this sculpture is, among other things, an allegorical representation of existential philosophy, human introspection, and the intellectual act of thinking. The bookends are aesthetically pleasing from all angles and can be rotated and used in various ways (see photos). They would also look stunning as standalone decorative pieces scattered on a shelf. The underside is lined with black, scratch-resistant felt. Dimensions/Max. Height: 17 cm. Maximum width 9 cm - Base: 8.5 X 6.5 cm - Net weight of the pair: 2.261 kg. Very good vintage condition.
