Superb pair of antique bookends from the Art Deco period (circa 1930-1940). The subject, very touching, depicts a doe and her fawn in an alert and graceful pose, typical of the stylised naturalistic style of this period. Details and Materials: The Subjects: Made of metal with a gilded patina in art spelter, they offer a beautiful luminous contrast and a lovely shine. The chiselling is fine, particularly around the heads and fur. The Bases: Made of veined black marble (natural white/grey veining), heavy and stable. The bases are thick and provide excellent support for books, even heavy ones. Condition: In beautiful vintage condition. The gilding has a lovely patina from time that gives it all its charm. The marble is in very good condition. A timeless piece, ideal for adding a "Cabinet of Curiosities" or "Bohemian Chic" touch to a library, on a desk, or in a child's room.
