Cornet vase in polychrome earthenware from Nevers, signed by Antoine Montagnon, illustrating the great Nivernaise tradition of the cornucopia decoration. The flared trumpet neck, widely open, rests on a bulging body highlighted by a twisted knot with yellow and black fluting, all on a matching circular pedestal. The decoration, with great finesse of execution, unfolds in polylobed reserves populated with scrolls and stylised acanthus foliage, in the famous "lambrequins" style cherished by the earthenware factories of Nevers since the 17th century. The palette, rich and contrasting, combines deep cobalt blue, antimony yellow, copper green, orange, and white, enhanced with motifs of masks (small faces) nestled within the interlacing. The neck is bordered by a frieze of black scrolls on a yellow background, beneath a night blue lip. Dimensions: height 45.5 cm — diameter at the neck 26.5 cm Condition: good overall condition, with 2 small chips at the base (visible in the photo) Signature: Antoine Montagnon, earthenware factory of Nevers A piece of considerable size, with careful iconography typical of Nivernaise production from the early 20th century, perfect for enthusiasts of antique French earthenware.
