Oak serving trolley with extendable top, white laminate centre panel and lower shelf. Swedish production, 1950s. Introduced in 1954, the Thea trolley was designed by Yngve Ekström for Swedese, the company he co-founded in 1945 with his brother Jerker Ekström and Bertil Sjöqvist. Crafted in oak, the trolley features two shelves supported by four turned uprights. The upper shelf is framed by a single continuous wooden element that rises along the corners, connects the uprights, and extends across the long side to form a raised rail that helps prevent objects from sliding off during movement. At the centre, a white laminate insert creates a refined material contrast with the oak. The top incorporates an extension system with movable side elements and integrated handholds: when closed, the trolley measures 71.5 cm in length; with the extension opened, it reaches 101.5 cm, increasing the usable surface by 30 cm. The lower shelf occupies the full space enclosed by the uprights. The careful execution of the wooden joints and the seamless integration of the extension system reflect Ekström's background in cabinetmaking, a foundation that informed his design practice throughout his career. Good condition. It may show some signs of age and use. Please pay close attention to the photographs. AF867
