This mid century dining / office chair was designed in the 1960’s and was most likely produced in one of the factories of former east germany or czechoslovakia. The main design feature is the striking fabric cushion with the red and navy blue patterned fabric, which can be easily unzip at the bottom part, removed and washed. The backrest and seat is screwed underneath to the black paint steel frame of four subtle legs, and with a lovely detail of the steel support protruding behind the backrest. Overall, this chair is a nice example of designers in the 1960’s trying to find a new ways to design mass produced furniture while remaining original and practical. They were experimenting with different approaches, techniques, materials and forms to make furniture that could be produced in large quantities for low costs - whilst being modern and durable. The chair is in great vintage condition showing only absolutely minimal wear on the steel legs. The foam inside the seat has slightly soften from using the chair over the years. The original fabric has been recently professionally cleaned and doesn’t have any holes or any other visible damage.
