Large grotesque plate (Urbino/Castelli style), made in Italy, hand-painted, early 20th century, in high-quality polychrome earthenware. Intense sienna yellow background adorned with winged mythological figures (sphinx), fleur-de-lis, and blue and white architectural elements. In the centre, a medallion depicts a winged female figure surrounded by a classical Greek motif. Origin: Italy, with hand-painted workshop marks on the reverse. Style: Urbino/Castelli. Grotesque decoration. Features the letters "SIL" and a hand-painted graphic symbol on the reverse. Early 20th century (circa 1920-1950). This colourful piece, handcrafted, exhibits a brighter glaze and finish characteristic of the first half of the 20th century. Condition: Light marks on the edge (chipping of the glaze) are common on this type of piece and attest to their handcrafted nature. Dimensions: 32.5 X 4 cm.
