Nyhavn exterior wall light, Louis Poulsen

Nyhavn outdoor wall lamp. Design: alfred homann & ole V. Kjær. The nyhavn wall lamp was awarded third prize in the louis poulsen competition for outdoor lighting. Before this competition, alfred homann had worked on some sketches and models, so with the help of his colleague ole V. Kjær he was able to prepare the material for the application in just five days. This is how alfred homann explains the idea behind the wall lamp: "it was important that the size of the luminaire was smaller and less visible than the luminaires already available on the market at the time. For this reason, familiar and classic shapes were chosen. The light coming out of the luminaire is characterized by the conical shade that directs it downwards. The small rings between the rounded top and the conical shade generate guiding light. The rings were sized both in height and width: 1. To avoid streaks of light on vertical surfaces, 2. To illuminate each other and 3. To direct a small amount of light onto the upper part of the conical shade. If the proportions or location of the light source were changed even slightly, the whole idea would fall apart! There are 4 pieces available, all in very good vintage condition, with minor signs of age and use (patinated copper).
