Superb set of 4 "Golem SD51" dining chairs designed by Vico Magistretti for Poggi in 1969. The unique structure of the chairs is made of glossy black lacquered wood, and the seats are covered in high-quality black leather. These chairs are very elegant in their graceful lines and simultaneously embody a linear simplicity. The element serving as the backrest is slightly contoured to fit the sitting position. This is one of the rare instances where the reference to the past does not come from the recovery of anonymous types and models, as Magistretti was accustomed to doing. He revisited this formal typology with the Koube chair collection designed for the Japanese brand Aidec. Vico Magistretti was born in Milan (1920 – 2006). He graduated in architecture and, in his studio, primarily carried out projects in urban architecture, industrial design, and furniture. He was a member of several juries and participated in numerous exhibitions, both in Italy and abroad. His products have been manufactured by Artemide, Cassina, Knoll International, and others. Fifteen of his creations are displayed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
