Very beautiful antique vase, from the 1920s to 1940s, possibly from the mid-1930s. Unsigned, made of fine stoneware biscuit (or possibly porcelain), in a style combining Art Nouveau and chinoiserie. Handcrafted, turned, decorated with a stamp and hand-painted, with glazing only on the inside. The shape is a swollen amphora resting on a slightly elevated small round base, with a narrow neck and flared mouth, featuring two double handles in the Art Nouveau/Art Deco spirit. The exterior is unglazed, with a matte texture of beige biscuit, decorated with dark Payne's grey blue borders and floral and geometric motifs inspired by Chinese designs, resembling a paisley pattern in places, with grey/black filling in the petals and on the leaves, and the borders and handles painted in black. The interior is glazed in a metallic brown-black, reminiscent of certain Belgian productions from the interwar period; the shape of the handles, the material, and the technique suggest European manufacture. The chinoiserie decoration is misleading here, as it is very likely not of Asian production. This vase does not come from an industrial or semi-industrial series production: a slight deformation of the neck highlights manual shaping. An unusual and rare object, very decorative, probably from a Belgian, French, or Dutch production. Height 25.5 cm, width 21 cm at the handles, maximum diameter 15-16 cm, diameter at the neck 10 cm, weight approximately 1 kg. Perfect condition, nothing notable, a few discreet small stains, visible use on the inside but not pronounced.
