Medieval Brussels 'Hunts of Maximilian' Belgian Jacquard tapestry. This tapestry depicts a medieval hunting scene from the 'Hunts of Emperor Maximilian' series, showing a landscape with figures on horseback and a detailed view of Brussels in the background. Inspired by 16th-century Flemish tapestries now in the Louvre, this large wall hanging is a 1960s interpretation in wool, measuring 210 X 138 cm. The scene, representing March, is full of activity and features Emperor Charles V leading a stag hunt in the Forest of Sonian, with a panorama of Brussels behind. The tapestry is lined, slightly padded for three-dimensional effect, and has a sewn pocket for hanging. It is a sophisticated Renaissance-style piece, rich in detail, with noblemen, animals, and decorative borders, and is in excellent vintage condition.
