Enameled ceramic plate with fish decoration - gérard hofmann - vallauris - 1950s enameled ceramic plate made by gérard hofmann for the cérenne workshop located in vallauris. Production prior to 1959, when gérard hofmann left cérenne to create his own workshop with his wife christiane. Handcrafted work, unique piece. Signature of the artist under the plate and stamp of the workshop 'cerenne - vallauris' I also have in my possession another plate from the same production, same period. Fish motif and decoration, very stylized, figurative, almost childish. This pattern is very openly inspired by pablo picasso's fish decoration production from 1947 (see last photo of photos of picasso plates found on the internet). Hofmann uses the same range of bright colors as picasso, very representative of the post-war revival. Yellow, deep red, blue, turquoise. The turquoise outline encircling the fish is very openly inspired by certain productions by fernand léger. Very good general condition, no chips. Some usual wear. A tiny hair of cooking without impact, see penultimate photo. Rare piece! Ideal for decoration, to place on a table, on a display or on a wall. Gérard hofmann (1917 - 1965) began a career as a painter before turning to ceramics. He first worked for fernand léger in biot, before becoming a decorator in the cérenne ceramic workshop in vallauris. A specialist in manganese red, gérard hofmann has produced pieces of remarkable quality.
