Antique pine wood chest – Central Europe, around 1900

Antique pine chest from Central Europe. It comes from rural domestic furniture from the turn of the century, when this type of chest was used for transporting and storing grain or bedding. Pieces like this were made with a trapezoidal profile to facilitate stacking and transport, common in barns and country houses in Central Europe. The structure, assembled with dovetail joints, tapers towards the base and features forged iron ring handles as well as an original lock on the front. The original gray paint shows wear typical of over a century of use, with the pine wood visible in the most exposed areas. In a contemporary entryway or living room, it serves as a storage chest or side table, bringing the authentic character of Central European rural furniture. Details.
