An authentic English library from the Georgian period, circa 1770, in Chippendale style. Architectural pediment with finely pierced fretwork, glazed doors with geometric small panes, four adjustable internal shelves. The lower part has two solid doors. It disassembles into two parts for easier transport. This piece comes with its original invoice dated 5 February 1955, issued by R.F. Lock Ltd, a reputable antique dealer on Brompton Road in London and a member of the British Antique Dealers' Association (BADA), which precisely describes the furniture: "Antique Mahogany Chippendale Cabinet with fret arch cornice, pair glazed doors under, on cupboard base. 34" wide. Circa 1770." Sold at the time for £225 — a considerable sum for 1955. Condition: very good overall condition for its age. A slight separation is visible on one board of the interior back, purely cosmetic and without impact on the overall sturdiness. The original locks (top and bottom) close but remain fragile with use. Minor wear on the top of the pediment. No other defects to report. A rare opportunity to acquire an 18th-century English piece with such clearly documented provenance. Dimensions: H 226 X W 94 X D 37 cm.
