English bookcase black, c. 1880

English mahogany bookcase from the late 19th century, circa 1880. The bookcase consists of two sections and features a later high-gloss black finish, which contrasts with the warm mahogany interior. The upper section has two glass doors with geometric glazing bars, characteristic of the English Chippendale style. The lower section features two panelled doors, behind which lies a spacious interior with adjustable shelves. The bookcase is finished with a moulded cornice and stands on a closed plinth. Slight signs of wear consistent with its age.
