The EA117 Aluminum Group office chair is one of Charles and Ray Eames's most famous designs for Herman Miller. Introduced in the late 1950s, the Aluminum Group series has become an icon of modern office furniture, beloved for its elegant lines, ergonomic comfort, and timeless functionality. This 1960s model features a four-star base on casters, armrests, and a mechanism for height adjustment, tilt, and swivel. The polished aluminum base contrasts with the chrome seat frame. The chrome finish is chipped in places. The seat has recently been reupholstered in Checker, a textile designed in 1965 by Alexander Girard for Herman Miller's textile division and reissued by Maharam. The checkerboard pattern, here in the olive and pink version, illustrates Girard's playful, modernist spirit. Crafted from a durable cotton and polyester blend, the Maharam reissue respects archival colors while offering a fresh, vibrant look. With its strong geometric presence and design heritage, this chair is both a collectible piece and a functional and striking addition to any workspace.
