Friedel Wauer cocoon pendant lamp for Goldkant Leuchten from the 1960s. This pendant lamp is executed in cocoon technique and emits a soft, diffused light thanks to the transparent, open structure of the material, which evenly filters the light when illuminated. The cocoon material was sprayed with synthetic resin onto a metal wire frame, a technique developed by Frits Friedel Wauer and later attributed to him by Flos. The method was inspired by the natural process of a silkworm enclosing itself, which also explains the name ‘cocoon’. This pendant lamp is executed in cream-coloured cocoon material, produced by Goldkant Leuchten and marked with the manufacturer’s logo (see photos). The dimensions are 50 × 43 × 43 cm (W×D×H), with a cord length of approximately 190 cm, and it is suitable for light sources up to a maximum of 100 watts. Source: Vintageinfo.be. The condition of this pendant lamp is good. The cocoon material shows slight discolouration consistent with age and material. The lamp functions properly.
