Elegant glazed stoneware vase attributed to Pierre Lion, a ceramicist from Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, in Nièvre. Slightly conical in shape, flaring towards the neck, this piece features a simple and harmonious silhouette. Its glazing in shades of beige, cream, and ochre reveals delicate variations in texture and subtle firing effects. The decoration features a discreet guilloché, with fine traces that rhythm the surface and add relief to the whole. The simplicity of the form allows the richness of the glaze to take centre stage, in the tradition of the artistic stoneware of Puisaye. Pierre Lion belongs to the Lion family, an important lineage of potters from Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, closely linked to the development of artistic stoneware in the region. At the end of the 19th century, the family workshop participated in the research of Jean Carriès, contributing to the renewal of forms and glazes. Pierre Lion continues this artisanal legacy, with a production characterised by simple forms and a particular attention to textural effects. Pierre Lion and the Lion family are referenced in the work "Grès de Puisaye, de Jean Carriès à nos jours – Marques et signatures, " dedicated to the history of potters and ceramicists in the region. A beautiful collector's piece, representative of the craftsmanship and ceramic tradition of Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye. Dimensions: Height: 14 cm. Diameter: 9 cm. Condition: perfect condition. Signature: traces of a signature, now illegible. Origin: Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, Nièvre, France.
