Very Beautiful Fireplace Screen 154 cm/77 cm in Bronze and Brass - Period 1880

Superb and important four-leaf fireplace screen, late 19th century (circa 1880). This high-quality piece stands out for the rare quality of its "fat" bronze casting, offering deep reliefs and great finesse in chiselling. The top is crowned with shell motifs, laurel garlands, and acanthus scrolls. The lower part is adorned with bas-relief panels depicting putti (cherubs) among swans and leafy scrolls. The mesh (the metal sieve) in brass features a complex geometric pattern of crosshatching, very decorative and much rarer than simple meshes (see photos). The robust structure in bronze and brass with original hinges allows for adjustment of the opening according to the hearth. Ball feet in bronze. Very good overall condition (no missing parts), the patina is period. The mesh is perfectly taut, without any snags. Dimensions: Height: 77 cm, Total width (unfolded): 154 cm.
