Important Japonese Presentation Cabinet in Carved Wood. Work from the Far East, late 19th century – Japonisme period. Spectacular presentation cabinet inspired by Asia, richly carved from exotic wood with a beautiful brown patina. This exceptional piece reflects the enthusiasm for the Far East that marked European decorative arts at the end of the 19th century. The overall architecture evokes an Asian pavilion with its high openwork pagoda topped with layered roofs and surmounted by a fantastic animal. The entire piece is abundantly adorned with high-relief sculptures representing imperial dragons, stylised plants, bunches of grapes, birds, and symbolic motifs inspired by Chinese iconography. The upper part features a showcase intended for displaying precious objects, while the middle section combines a carved door decorated with a dragon and an open compartment. A side shelf with openwork and a lower step complete this particularly elaborate composition. Due to its quality of execution, imposing size, and richness of decoration, this cabinet constitutes a spectacular decorative piece intended for a prestigious interior, a cabinet of curiosities, or a collection dedicated to Japonisme and the arts of the Far East.
