Plaster bust of Madame Du Barry, favorite of King Louis XV. It was executed by Augustin Pajou in 1773. It is a 19th-century plaster reproduction, with a superb original patina. One of the most famous busts in French history, the original is now in the Louvre: "Commissioned by Madame Du Barry, probably in 1772, as it was nearing completion in the spring of 1773. Salon of 1773, No. 197. Paid for in 1777. In the salon of the Château de Louveciennes, June 1774, then placed in the Pavillon Neuf. Mentioned in the salon of the Château de Louveciennes in the inventory of June 1774, then in the Pavillon Neuf according to the inventory begun on March 6, 1793.
