Provençal walnut Petrin

Old petrin, typical ornamental piece of the provence region. Kneader with removable scalloped lid, belt drawer. Bottom of the scalloped furniture with many ornaments including the lyre. 4 feet cambered with windings, louis XV style. Many carved details, provençal attributes; lyre, olive branches, flowering rinceaux, fruit basket. Originally the kneader was intended to make bread, it is a chest on feet. Accompanied by the panetière, it was worked, decorated and became an essential piece of ornament in provençal houses. Furniture of beautiful workmanship, all in solid walnut in excellent condition.
