This earthenware statue from Desvres represents a communing figure with a halo holding a chalice. It was designed by the ceramist Gabriel Fourmaintraux (1886-1984), who was the director of the eponymous pottery from 1930 until 1982. The earthenware of Desvres, located in the North of France, encompasses the productions of the Desvres factories. The colours of the statue of the communing figure are soft to inspire inner peace. The chalice and halo are glazed in gold. Initials GF (for Gabriel Fourmaintraux) are embossed at the bottom of the robe, and there is a GF stamp in the sun under the piece. This piece was made in the 1930s. In good condition, with two small firing defects at the back of the halo in the form of lines, minor losses of gilding, and small scratches on the halo, which remains very solid, as well as small bubbles in the glaze (see photos). Dimensions: height 14.5 cm, width 8 cm, base diameter 5 cm. Weight without packaging: 161 g.
