A unique uranium glass vase made in the 1930s in Czechoslovakia, probably by the renowned Moser glassworks, an icon of European artistic glassmaking. The vase's form refers to canonical Art Deco patterns: a distinct, geometric silhouette based on an hourglass shape, with widely flared, faceted edges at the top and bottom and a noticeable narrowing in the middle. The standout feature is the vertical, sharply cut facets running around the entire body, enhancing the symmetry and giving the object a sculptural character. The glass is thick, relatively heavy, highly glossy, and silky smooth; the unique, semi-transparent yellow-green colour is due to uranium content, typical of exclusive early 20th-century glass. The lack of additional decorations and metal elements emphasises the purity of form. The piece is in very good condition, with no visible chips or signs of heavy use. This vase carries the echo of interwar experiments with light and colour – like a fragment of a modernist dream filtered through the prism of science and craftsmanship. Uranium glass, which glows under UV light, tells the story of a time when artistry and chemistry met as equals. Each break in the thickly cut facets evokes evenings in smoky modernist salons – somewhat theatrical, full of chiaroscuro and reflections, where everyday objects became miniature style manifestos.
