Smoking chair, known as a voyeur, from the Napoleonic III period in blackened wood, France, circa 1860-1880. Round upholstered seat and high backrest with twisted column supports ending in a padded armrest for straddling; twisted legs connected by an X-shaped stretcher with a central finial. Old upholstery in tapestry with foliage on a beige background, nailhead trim; fabric worn at the corners but complete, blackened wood with minor lacquer wear.
