Antique Chinese rug from Eastern Turkestan, formerly known as a "Samarkand rug." This pattern originates from the western city of Yarkand. Late 19th century. Hand-knotted wool rug. Vegetable dye. Pomegranate decoration, a symbol of fertility. Borders adorned with sheep horns called "argali."
