Pair of marine paintings - Port of Calais, early 19th century - Oil on panels. The subjects depict fishing boats entering the port of Calais, boats used to smuggle Leavers lace-making machines from Nottingham in disassembled parts. Thus, piece by piece, the machines were imported by British families who were pioneers in the growth of the lace industry in Calais. The style: visible brush strokes, reflections on the water, warm light and warm colours. Very beautiful gilded wooden frames. Frame dimensions: 34 / 25 cm Panel dimensions: 24 / 15 cm Signature to be identified.
