Large portrait of a woman in a black dress, wearing jewellery. Oil on canvas, an old painting signed J. Cleenewerck and dated 1912 in the bottom right. Very high quality of execution. The canvas, the frame, and the chassis are original. The Cleenewerck family is originally from French Flanders, notably represented by the writer Marguerite Yourcenar. In a beautiful frame of gilded wood and stucco, the canvas is well-stretched on its chassis and is in excellent condition with no signs of restoration, deformation, or dents. The stamped mark on the back of the chassis is a trademark of the firm Lefranc & Cie, a manufacturer or supplier at the time of the chassis and possibly of the fully mounted canvas. Although shipping is possible, I recommend delivery for this item. Visible signs of age: tiny losses of stucco on the frame.
