Art Deco Vase in Black Hyalite Glass from the De Rupel Glassworks

Period: c. 1920-1940. A special Art Deco style vase made of opaque black glass (hyalite) hand-blown. The upper part of the vase is decorated with an acid-etched 'frosted' surface, which is typical of Boom glassware. This surface is interspersed with fine wavy vertical golden threads. The lower half is adorned with golden bands. This shape is known as the Brigitte model and has been decorated in various ways. There is no label or signature, but it is known to be produced by the Rupel glassworks. 'Boom glass' was produced at the 'de Rupel' glassworks established in 1923 in Boom, a municipality in the province of Antwerp, Belgium. The factory's golden age was during the Roaring Twenties (the 1920s) when there was production of refined hand-blown and hand-painted pieces in the Art Deco style. Condition: very good. No damage. Very little thinning of the gilding. Dimensions: 15.5 cm in height, 24 cm in diameter at the widest point.
