Large French mirror in architectural panel with gilt frame
An imposing French mirror that is more like a complete architectural wall panel than an ordinary mirror. The panel was probably assembled fairly recently using older French components. The central mirror has a richly decorated gilt frame with flowers, foliage and an elegant crest, and a gilt rosette sits above it. The surround is painted off-white and finished with subtle soft green lines. The mirror consists of two mirror plates. The lower part appears older and shows slight ageing and oxidation, while the upper part was probably replaced later. The horizontal join between the two is visible and adds to the layered character. Its size and light, almost château-like feel make it an instant focal point in a hallway, bedroom, salon or spacious living room. Particularly suited to a French, classic, rustic or eclectic interior, but also works strongly as a contrast in an understated Belgian or wabi-sabi interior. Good decorative condition with visible signs of use, ageing of the gilding, minor damage and marks on the mirror glass. The panel was probably made more recently and incorporates older parts; the two mirror plates differ in age.
