This vase is attributed without any hesitation to Gilbert Méténier, born in 1876. The signature under the vase must have faded over time, but there is no doubt about its authorship. This French ceramist was known for his pieces with elegant shapes and deep-coloured flambe glazes. This model elegantly embodies the decorative spirit of early 20th-century French ceramics, at the crossroads of the waning Art Nouveau and the early lines of Art Deco. Its compact and generous silhouette, almost spherical, is enhanced by a narrow neck and two perfectly symmetrical openwork handles, which give it both balance and sculptural character. These handles, seamlessly integrated into the body of the vase, testify to a skilled craftsmanship where function becomes ornament. One of the most remarkable aspects of this piece lies in its glazing. The gradient of deep blues, almost cobalt at the base, transforms into nuanced drips blending greens, beiges, and browns, evoking an effect of lava or molten material. This type of glaze, known as "flambe" or "running, " is characteristic of the aesthetic explorations of the time, where the randomness of fire becomes a fully-fledged creative element. It is in excellent condition. Height: 16 cm. Diameter: 16 cm.
