Old cast iron fireplace plate, eagle and sun decoration, 47 × 47 cm

An old cast iron fireplace plate with a relief decoration depicting an eagle under a radiant sun with a human face, framed by baroque-inspired floral motifs. Fireplace plates were often decorated with designs intended to protect the home or assert the owner's status. This 19th-century model is interesting. The sun represents light, life, and warmth, the protection of the hearth, while the eagle signifies strength, power, and vigilance. It has a beautiful dark brown antique patina. The lower part shows some wear, a testament to its age, without detracting from its strong decorative appeal.
