This French weekender/chest of drawers dates from the 1950s-60s and perfectly reflects the functional elegance of post-war furniture. Combining traditional French cabinet-making skills with modernist lightness, it appeals with its simple lines and the finesse of its details. Its façade is undoubtedly its main asset: five stacked drawers with cascading angled fronts animate the piece with a subtle movement and a beautiful play of shadows. This composition creates a harmonious visual rhythm while offering ample storage capacity in a slender format. The oak reveals a very graphic grain, with a typical French production veneer from the era: on each front, two mirrored wood leaves form a discreet diamond point in their centre. The warm hue of the wood is highlighted by minimalist rectangular brass handles, which provide an elegant and very contemporary contrast. The side posts, with rounded corners, slightly extend beyond the top to form a small ledge, a detail that adds to the overall refinement. Resting on tapered splayed legs, the piece gains lightness and asserts its 1950s-60s aesthetic. The proportions are perfectly balanced, and the craftsmanship is meticulous. Very versatile, this weekender/chest of drawers will fit well as a bedside table in a bedroom, a storage unit in a living room, or an entryway piece, with a structured and timeless vintage touch. It has been fully sanded and then protected with a medium oak matte varnish to reveal the richness of its wood. The original hardware has been cleaned.
