Present at the Art Workshops alongside Jouve, Innocenti, and the Orlandos, Marcel Guillot was one of the major institutional figures — first as an exhibitor, then as president of the Salon, before passing the baton to Jacques Blin. Trained in Sèvres, he developed in his Parisian workshop a style that is immediately recognisable: geometric decorations organised in horizontal friezes, controlled incisions, and a palette of muted, earthy tones. This vase — signed "Guillot / Hand-painted / France" on the reverse — is a coherent demonstration of this: a frieze of stylised foliage in panels against a background of green and grey shades, a repeated sequence on the neck and body in a decorative logic akin to Stig Lindberg for Gustavsberg or Guido Gambone, but rooted in the tradition of post-war French art workshops. Gold medal at the International Exhibition in Brussels in 1958.
