Condition consistent with its age and use. No chips or flakes. Exceptional large baluster vase by Roger Capron in terracotta with white slip, decorated with blue motifs and two friezes of leaf crowns in black revealed by paraffin during the glazing process. This large vase (31.5 cm high) is signed under the base "Capron Vallauris" and is typical of Capron's production in the early 1960s. It is in perfect condition. Roger Capron studied applied arts in Paris before settling in Vallauris in 1946, where he founded a ceramics workshop, contributing to the local renaissance of ceramics. In 1952, he purchased an abandoned pottery and opened a small ceramics factory, employing 15 workers. By 1957, he had established a considerable international reputation. By 1980, his factory employed 120 people, and during the same decade, he returned to producing unique pieces exhibited internationally. Following the economic crisis, the factory closed in 1982. Capron passed away in 2006, leaving behind a significant and globally recognised body of work. A detailed certificate will be provided to the buyer on our gallery's letterhead.
