An undisputed icon of postwar design, the Soriana sofa is celebrated for its softness, innovation, and sculptural presence. Designed in 1969, its generously upholstered form is gathered and secured by a distinctive external chrome-plated steel clamp, transforming a technical solution into a defining visual element. This radical approach to upholstery redefined modern seating and earned the model the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award in 1970, one of the highest honours in industrial design. With its deep seat and enveloping proportions, the Soriana offers remarkable comfort while maintaining a strong visual identity. It is a piece that naturally anchors a space, bringing both presence and effortless sophistication to an interior. Afra and Tobia Scarpa were among the most influential voices in Italian modern design. Trained as architects, they approached furniture with a rare combination of structural intelligence and artistic sensitivity. Their work reshaped the language of contemporary interiors, introducing pieces that feel at once innovative and timeless. The Soriana perfectly reflects their quiet grandiosity, a design bold in vision yet refined in execution, created not to follow trends but to transcend them. The condition of the sofa is very good, it has an overall look as a vintage item, but there is not tear in leather, the leather was very well kept, has still a soft feel and a bit of a shiny surface. We estimate it's a more recent production.
