Oak bank safe, neo-Gothic style – early 20th century

This solid oak bench-chest perfectly embodies the neo-Gothic aesthetic, blending architectural rigor with abundant sculpted decoration. Its robust structure is adorned with a rich ornamental vocabulary inspired by flamboyant Gothic: stylised floral motifs, radiant rose windows, deeply carved foliage, and geometric patterns inherited from medieval decor. The high backrest, rhythmically punctuated by a row of turned balusters, is framed by sculpted posts in volutes and chimeras, topped with a central rose window surrounded by scrollwork. The armrests, also elaborately crafted, rest on textured posts that enhance the characteristic verticality of the style. On the front, the chest features two panels decorated with radiant rose windows and intertwining vegetation that enliven the face of the chest. Furthermore, the opening of the chest provides a generous and functional storage space. This oak piece reveals a beautiful depth of tone, highlighting the quality of the sculpture and the artisan's craftsmanship. Serving as both a seat, a side piece, and a decorative element, this bench-chest will bring a warm and architectural presence to an entrance, a living room, or a charming interior.
