FOLK ART - WOODEN TOBACCO BOX

Carved wooden snuffbox with anthropomorphic decoration. On the front of the snuffbox, there is a face, with the eyes represented by two rhinestones, the nose carved from wood, and the mouth adorned with foliage. The back features a sculpted relief scene depicting several characters in an architectural setting. The hinged lid reveals a hollow interior designed for snuff. It is noted that the metal hinge slides into the lid but does not remain fixed. It is likely broken inside the lid. A curiosity and piece of popular art, this snuffbox illustrates a taste for sculpted pieces of character, blending humour, artisanal virtuosity, and fantastic imagination.
