Beautiful earthenware vase from the Kupittaan Savi factory in Turku, Finland, made in the mid-20th century. At that time, each piece was hand-painted and then signed by its decorator. The floral decoration is freely painted on a crackled cream glaze: tulips, mauve daisies, ears of wheat, and light grasses, in shades of burnt orange, lavender, slate blue, and umber. The paint is applied transparently in the petals, almost like watercolour. Two ring handles, a flared neck, and a dark grey lip with slight metallic reflections frame the decoration, highlighted by blue lines at the shoulder and foot. It is a warm piece full of character. It stands out on a shelf or windowsill and can hold a bouquet of dried flowers, some branches, or flowers from the garden. ✦ Manufacturer: Kupittaan Savi, Turku, Finland (attributed by an auction house) ✦ Marks: "MADE IN FINLAND" embossed and decorator's mark painted in brown under the base. ✦ Height: 23 cm. ✦ Width: 19 cm.
