Double bed made of solid sycamore wood and sycamore veneer; moulded and curved elements. Headboard and footboard with upholstered panels in a light grey fabric. Circa 1940. This double bed features a structure with simple lines and elegantly curved shapes. The slightly arched headboard and footboard consist of moulded frames containing upholstered central panels, creating a measured contrast between the textile surface and the warmth of the light wood. The side posts and feet, with a curved section, demonstrate careful woodwork and contribute to the overall formal balance. The use of sycamore, evident in both the solid wood and the veneer, gives the piece a bright and uniform tone. The set is completed by a slatted base, suitable for a standard mattress of 140 × 190 cm. In excellent condition, with no visible major alterations. Dimensions: Length: 205 cm Width: 163 cm Height: 103 cm (headboard); 63 cm (footboard) This bed is part of a French furniture production from the transitional period of the 1930s–1940s, characterised by the gradual abandonment of the ostentatious decorations of Art Deco in favour of more streamlined and functional forms. The curved treatment of the structural elements, combined with the sobriety of the ornamentation, reflects a pursuit of discreet elegance and a particular attention to the quality of materials and craftsmanship.
