Large septarian nodule on custom stand. A septarian nodule is a round or oval stone nodule with a network of natural cracks inside, which are later filled with minerals such as calcite, aragonite or barite. They usually form in ancient sediment layers. First, a hard concretion forms in soft mud around, for example, organic material or a chemical precipitation point. During further drying, shrinkage and geological changes, cracks form inside. Later, mineral-rich water flows through those cracks and fills them. 30-35 million years old.
