Queen Anne pedestal commode circa 1710 in walnut and oyster/ laburnum veneer, with documentation certifying it as part of the collection of Captain Edward George Spencer Churchill (1876-1964). A highly decorative and important bureau dating from the early 18th century. The frame is made of English walnut with the finest oyster veneer finish presented. The commode is exquisite and includes two of the three original keys that lock the base cupboard and the bureau section. The drop-down flap reveals a beautiful writing surface in hand-dyed green leather and gold leaf. Receipt dated 8 October 1968 confirming the purchase of this piece, indicating it comes from Captain E.G. Spencer-Churchill. The piece has been thoroughly cleaned, waxed, and hand-polished, with wear marks and patina consistent with age, small losses of veneer, and slight cracks in the wood that add charm. Dimensions: height 184.5 cm, width 105.5 cm, depth 54.5 cm (depth with flap down and drawer extended 103 cm), height under foot 76 cm.
