Beautiful terrine covered in pyrite stoneware attributed to Michel Dumont, a ceramist from Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, in Nièvre. This piece features a round and low shape, with simple and balanced lines, accompanied by its widely overhanging lid, whose flared profile adds a touch of originality to the whole. Its glazing in shades of ochre, brown, and golden yellow is animated by a multitude of small dark spots, characteristic of the pyrite stoneware from Puisaye. These natural effects, obtained during firing, give the surface a particularly rich visual texture. Michel Dumont (born in 1947) is a potter from Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye. After working with André Normand, known as Capi, he joined Charles Gaudry's workshop in 1974, where he perfected his throwing skills. In 1978, he took over this workshop with Antonio Pereira and continued the production of utilitarian and decorative stoneware, notably the pyrite stoneware, emblematic of this workshop. Michel Dumont is referenced in the book "Grès de Puisaye, de Jean Carriès à nos jours – Marques et signatures, " dedicated to the history of potters and ceramists in the region. A piece representative of the traditional know-how of the workshops in Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, both decorative and interesting for collectors of regional stoneware. Dimensions: Diameter: 22 cm. Height: 13 cm. Condition: used condition. Presence of several chips on the piece, to be taken into account. Sold as is, in accordance with the photographs. Signature: unsigned. Material: glazed pyrite stoneware. Origin: Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, Nièvre, France.
