Here is a terracotta plaque with a very beautiful enamel in pretty bright colors on a background with copper highlights. It is a representation of the virgin and child, also called our lady of vladimir by the orthodox. This work was created by the artist michel folscheid (1919-2014) in his troglodyte workshop "emaux de saint michel du roc". Michel folscheid, a very talented ceramist and enameler, was one of the main icon specialists in france from the 1950s, he notably created "stations of the cross" which adorn churches such as that of rochecorbon or melun, among others. This icon dates from the 1960s or 1970s. The back side is decorated with a relief decoration painted in black. The plaque has two holes at the top and a string to hang it on the wall. This icon is in very good condition, no cracks or chips, maybe just slight abrasions of the black tint on the back or on the edges, but it seems to me rather that it is original. It measures 20 cm by 13.5 cm for a thickness of 2 cm. It is relatively heavy, about 750g.
