Set of 2 bedside tables by La Permanente Mobili Cantù, Italy, 1950s.

Set of 2 bedside tables by La Permanente Mobili Cantù, Italy, 1950s. A very elegantly crafted set of bedside tables by La Permanente Mobili Cantù in dark lacquered wood, cut glass, and beautifully detailed brass legs. What stands out are the shapes of the bedside tables and the materials used. There is a double layer of glass; the top layer is quite thick, beautifully cut, and blue when viewed from the sides, all in excellent condition with no chips or anything, and the second layer of glass beneath the top layer has slightly colored paper underneath, which was quite common at that time, and this layer is also in very good condition. There are many details, such as how the glass is held together at the top. It fits together very nicely, and the glass is also very well protected this way, which is why it is still in such splendid and clear condition. Beautiful detailed woodwork in the upper corners. The legs actually form a kind of spoiler on the sides with all sorts of shapes and are held in place by very nice brass screws. The same brass is found on the legs, which are so typical of Italy at that time and are one of the trademarks of Il Permanente Mobile Cantù. Last but not least: the shape of the drawer mirrors the shape of the back panel with the same inwardly rounded edges. Superb details to look at, and I am sure these bedside tables will not tire easily due to their very luxurious execution. Dimensions. Width: 52 cm. Height: 56 cm.
